The cherries I had with dinner were neither sweet nor tart, just kind of bland. My Blues failed to take the Stanley Cup tonight. And the combination of last night’s Sriracha and today’s hemorrhoids have me experiencing new and exciting kinds of pain that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy . At least tomorrow is my Friday so I can have a few days to play with my new pile of cheap CL computer parts (if I can find the damn Windows installation disc...)

Why install Windows when you could run Linux for free and never have friends again?

Windows will also be free. This computer will be for a home media center setup, and until I re-engineer it to use Kodi or something else (and I don't have time for that right now) , it’ll need to be running Windows Media Center under Windows 7.

Ah, yeah. My HTPC runs Windows, too (it’s also the game box).

You can download legit install disks from Microsoft online FYI? (Or create live usb installers if we're talking Win8 or Win10)

The d isc I’m looking for is an HP OEM Windows 7 Pro install disc. It has SP1 on it and apparently reads the license key from the BIOS and thus saves you some time during installation and configuation. I do have a regular Win7 disc, but using this one would save a bunch of time and has the correct drivers and such.
If nothing else, the search for this disc will force me to do some housecleaning. I went searching for it in my car yesterday, and now the interior is now clean and organized. ..

If that machine has a functioning Windows install now
, you could use a program like Magical Jellybean Keyfinder, or Produkey to find the license key for Windows
(if memory serves) and just reinstall it and use the key you pulled?

Barebones system for $20 so I need to toss in my own RAM and HD. It has the CoA but I want to save a few steps (drivers, SP, activation) by using the OEM disc.

How do you approach someone to ask if they use Linux?
No need - they’ll tell you without even being prompted...
